Pay-it-Forward Friday | The Little Big Things

Pay-it-Forward Friday | The Little Big Things

“Just begin’ coz I just did!” – Suchi @ The Little Big Things

I love this quote from my very favorite doodler, Suchi!  Suchi is a digital designer & doodler living in Dubai, UAE.

Although she studied digital art formally at school, much of what she has learned comes from what she sees around her and by simply just ‘doing it’.

Suchi’s doodles are non-complicated, everyday art that connects well with people.  As with all of us she loves to hear feedback from her clients and the nicest feedback she receives for her doodles is when a client shares that her doodle make them smile.

Suchi also worked as the Creative Director for one of Middle East’s largest Web Agencies and firmly believes in Teamwork, Technology & Intuition.

She recently took to doodling and what started as simple scribbles is now slowly growing into her idea of daily-happy-ness.  Suchi’s goal is to keep it simple… always. I’m a huge fan of the KISS method & I love that she strives toward that goal.

Suchi giggles and explains that it’s also amusing to note how her tribe is getting bigger over social media and continues to grow every day. She is a newbie Etsy-an which gives her a great insight into what people really want!

She also enjoys dabbling with watercolor and collecting quirky handmade stuff. She is truly a creative at heart… not to mention completely adorable and a total sweetheart.

Her favorite coffee is Americano & Cinnamon morning bun, she has a pet fish called Blub and loves to watch The Notebook.  Every one of those is a win in my book!  Guess I need to grab a ticket to Dubai so we can grab some coffee & a movie.

I’ll leave you with one of Suchi’s favorite quotes and an adorable doodle she made for me to kick start your weekend with a smile. “Don’t let the excellent get in the way of the good.

Pay it Forward Friday | Dedra Writes

Pay it Forward Friday | Dedra Writes

In this age of texts, tweets and emails, there is a closeness lost, a personal connection that seems to have gone away. Where are the days of love letters, thank you notes and hand-written correspondence?

While I love all those technical communications I mentioned above, (I hate talking on the phone!), because it is February and Valentine’s Day, wouldn’t it be nice to let someone know you are thinking about them, loving them, by mail? The old-fashioned way?

When my husband and I dated in the late 80’s, we lived two-hours away from each other. This was before all the technical devices we now have and love. The only way to communicate was through a landline (a what?). One of those phones that had a cord and a wire in the wall. We talked every night, once a day, and that was long distance; it was costly.

We also communicated by letter.

We wrote to each other, using pen and paper, daily. Every day I ran to the mailbox and received happy- mail from my boyfriend. I distinctly remember how joyful I was to read his words. I cherished that moment. We poured our hearts and minds out onto those pages.

I kept every one of them and still cherish them today.

Writing for me has always been a love.

Whether it was writing a letter to my boyfriend or my grandmother, it brought me pleasure. I did that, too. For years, I wrote weekly to my grandmother and to my husband’s grandmother. I loved putting the words onto paper. I loved buying notecards and stationery, stamps and stickers. I would include photographs of my children, knowing when these sweet ladies opened the letter, they would smile and feel loved.

You can spread this joy to someone. You don’t have to do it daily or weekly but you should do it. Everyone loves receiving happy-mail.

Let someone in your life know that you love them and they are important to you. We all lead busy lives and this simple gesture will mean so much to the one you write to. Taking the five minutes will mean more to the person on the other side of the mailbox–more than you know. They will feel loved and important. They will feel cherished. You will feel something, too.

Get a basket, bin or crate to keep your notecards, stationery and stamps handy. Buy yourself a special pen to make writing more fun.

You can find notecards at any store, like Target, Walmart, your grocery store and even dollar stores. Buy stickers to seal the envelope. Practice your hand-lettering. Make this an event–not a chore. You can even use yellow legal pads like my husband did. (Pretty notecards are way more fun though!)

Write to someone today and spread some love and smiles. And perhaps they will write to someone. And so on…

On today’s Pay-it-Forward Friday I am so excited to introduce you to Elizabeth of La Couture d’Elizabeth.  I don’t know about you but her business name alone gives me visions of love and photos of beautiful girls in amazing gowns set against Springtime in Paris and the Eiffel Tower.  Let’s all take a moment to daydream of ourselves for a moment in that setting strolling with the love our life in our perfect custom creation by Elizabeth shall we?

Elizabeth owns a clothing design and alterations company specializing in custom gown designs on a budget. Her passions is creating a bride’s dream gown without breaking the bank. She can create semi-custom gowns using your measurements to fit the perfect dress and can even do so  for out-of-town brides using video chat for consultations.

Elizabeth loves working with brides to achieve their dream gown whether that means altering an existing gown or creating one from scratch within their budget.  She can also create the perfect prom dress or other formal you might need.

When she’s not busy sewing or getting tangled in thread Elizabeth loves coconut lattes and has a parrotlet – the tiniest parrot you can get.  Her name is Alice after Alice in Wonderland!  She also has a chihuahua-terrier mix named Mike and her all time favorite movie is You’ve got mail!

That just makes me giggle.  I can hear the dial-up sound in the back of my mind and see Tom Hanks running away from Meg Ryan in that little coffee shop as I type this.  I love that movie too and chihuahuas although I’m partial to mine.  He he
